France, which is a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group on Karabakh settlement, can no longer mediate this particular conflict, Erdogan said, “due to its recent controversial decisions.”

The Persecution and Detention of Our Brothers and Sisters Will Never Stop Us!

Hizb ut-Tahrir Central Media Office, began a global campaign on February 13, 2021, entitled, “On the Centenary of the Destruction of the Caliphate, Establish It O Muslims” featuring many cities, including those in Turkey, featuring video content from historical venues of the Khilafah. As part of the campaign, a video was shot in the historical Amorium region of Afyon by our sisters, reminding Muslims of the Islamic Khaleefah Mu’tasim, who responded to the cry of Muslim women in captivity.
Yet, on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, Ankara Police Department raided the homes of five of our sisters in the morning, citing the video footage and detained our sisters. Our five sisters, one of whom was only 16 years old, were transferred to Afyon upon the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. They were released today under the judicial mandate of the court, after a full three days of detention.
Within the duration of the campaign, three of our brothers were detained by the Bursa Police Department on Sunday, February 20, as were five of our brothers who were filming videos in Üsküdar, for the same purpose, in front of the tomb of Ertuğrul Ghazi in Bilecik Söğüt.
Hizb ut-Tahrir Media Office in Turkey hereby issues the following reminders to all stake holders in this persecution of both our brothers and sisters, including the authorities and affliliated bodies:
1- Hizb ut Tahrir was founded in 1953 in Al-Quds. It is an Islamic party that began its political activities in Turkey in 1959. Its activities are intellectual and political activities, whilst it does not undertake militant or violent activities. Despite this six decades presence in Turkey of Hizb ut Tahrir, its shebaab face continual harrassment, persecution and defamation. This oppression, persecution and slander has continued during the period when the anti-Islamist, pro-British secular, Kemalists were in power, backed by elements in the miltary, as well as during the recent rule of the Justice and Development Party (Ak Parti)
Throughout, our brothers have been arrested, subjected to torture and exile, as well as being sentenced with severe punishments. However, this oppression and tyranny could not deter Hizb ut Tahrir and its shebaab, for they never turned their back on the obligation. In contrast, the situation affirmed the perseverance of our shebaab. All manner of deception, plotting and smear campaigns against Hizb ut Tahrir came to nothing, by Allah’s leave. All this persecution could never harm Hizb-ut Tahrir and its immaculate Da’wah. Therefore, know well that you can never discourage and harm the shebaab of Hizb ut Tahrir, with all this pressure and persecution.
2- Our sisters, whom you took into custody by raiding their homes in Ankara, called you to the example of the Islamic Khaleefah Mu’tasim, who rescued a Muslim woman captured by the Romans, from Baghdad, by sending a huge army to Amorium. However, you closed your eyes and covered your ears to the cries and screams of oppressed women and children all over the Islamic world, with even your tongues hidden motionless in your mouths. As if that was not enough, you persecuted Muslim women just because they said they said My Lord is Allah (swt) and wanted the Khilafah.
3- Calling for the Khilafah is not a crime, neither in the sight of Allah (swt) nor in the sight of those who believe in Allah (swt) and the Last Day. On the contrary, calling for Khilafah is an Islamic duty, of honor, blessing and prestige. We are honored and blessed with what we have done and will continue to do. Therefore, these operations and detentions will never be able to dissuade us from our good cause. Know very well that we will never stop working to to establish the Khilafah.

Hizb-ut Tahrir Merkezi Medya Bürosu’nun 13 Şubat 2021 tarihinde başlattığı “Ey Müslümanlar Yıkılışının 100. Yılında Hilafeti Yeniden Kurun” başlıklı kampanya çerçevesinde, dünyanın birçok şehrinde olduğu gibi biz de Türkiye’nin birden çok şehrinde tarihi mekânlarda Hilafet içerikli video çekerek kampanyaya destek olduk. Kampanya kapsamında Afyon’un tarihi Amuriye bölgesinde, esaret altındaki Müslüman kadınların feryadına icabet eden İslam Halifesi Mu’tasım’ı Müslümanlara hatırlatan bir video çekimi yapıldı. 23 Şubat 2021 Salı günü Ankara Emniyet Müdürlüğü, video çekimini gerekçe göstererek 5 bacımızın evine sabah vakti baskın yapıp kardeşlerimizi gözaltına aldılar. Birisi henüz 16 yaşında olan 5 kardeşimiz, Cumhuriyet Savcılığının talebi üzerine Afyon’a sevk edildiler ve 3 günlük gözaltı sonrası bugün mahkemenin adli kontrol şartı ile serbest bırakıldılar. Kampanya kapsamında Bilecik Söğüt’te bulunan Ertuğrul Gazi Türbesi önünde yapılan bir video çekimi sebebiyle 20 Şubat Pazar günü 3 kardeşimiz Bursa Emniyet Müdürlüğü tarafından, yine Üsküdar’da video çekimi yapan 5 kardeşimiz de İstanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü tarafından aynı gerekçe ile gözaltına alınmışlardı.
Hizb-ut Tahrir Türkiye Medya Bürosu olarak kardeşlerimize yönelik yapılan bu baskılara karşı öncelikle yöneticilere, sonra ise bu zulümlerde payı olan tüm kesimlere şu hatırlatmaları yapıyoruz:
1-Hizb-ut Tahrir 1953 yılında Filistin’de kurulmuş ve 1959 yılında Türkiye’deki siyasi faaliyetlerine başlamış İslami bir partidir. Çalışmaları fikri ve siyasi çalışmalar olup, maddi ya da şiddet içerikli hiçbir faaliyeti yoktur. Buna rağmen 60 küsur yıllık bu dönemde Hizb-ut Tahrir gençlerine yönelik Türkiye’de nice baskı, zulüm ve karalamalar yapıldı. Gerek İslam düşmanı İngiliz yanlısı laik Kemalistlerin iktidarda olduğu dönemde gerek darbeci askeri vesayet sahiplerinin yönetimde olduğu dönemde ve gerekse de en son Ak Parti iktidarı döneminde bu baskı, zulüm ve karalamalar hep devam etti. Kardeşlerimiz tutuklandı, işkence ve sürgünlere maruz kaldılar, ağır cezalara mahkûm edildiler. Ancak bu baskı ve zulümler Hizb-ut Tahrir’e ve gençlerine zarar veremediği gibi, onları asla davalarından döndürmedi. Aksine bu durum kardeşlerimizin azimlerini biledi. Hizb-ut Tahrir’e yönelik her türlü hile, kumpas ve karalama kampanyaları Allah’ın izniyle boşa çıktı. Tüm bunlar Hizb-ut Tahrir’e ve tertemiz davetine asla zarar veremedi. Dolayısıyla şunu iyi bilin ki, bu baskı ve zulümlerle Hizb-ut Tahrir gençlerini asla yıldıramaz ve onlara bir zarar veremezsiniz.
2-Ankara’da evlerine baskın yaparak gözaltına aldığınız bacılarımız, Rumların esir aldığı bir Müslüman kadını Bağdat’tan Amuriye’ye devasa bir ordu göndererek esaretten kurtaran İslam Halifesi Mu’tasım’ı örnek gösterip size çağrı yaptılar. Ancak sizler, İslam coğrafyasının dört bir yanındaki mazlum kadın ve çocukların feryadına ve çığlıklarına gözlerinizi kapayıp, kulaklarınızı tıkadınız ve dilleriniz lal oldu. Yetmezmiş gibi sırf Rabbim Allah’tır dedikleri, Hilâfet istedikleri için Müslüman kadınlara zulmettiniz.
3-Hilâfet istemek ne Allah katında ne de Allah’a ve ahiret gününe iman edenler nezdinde suç değildir. Bilakis İslami bir görev aynı zamanda onur ve şereftir. Biz bu yaptıklarımızla onur ve şeref duyuyoruz. Dolayısıyla bu operasyonlar ve gözaltılar bizi bu hayırlı davamızdan asla vazgeçiremeyecektir. Şunu çok iyi bilin ki, bizler Hilafet’i istemek ve onu kurmak için çalışmaktan asla geri durmayacağız.

Turkey has detained 10 retired admirals over their public criticism of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s “crazy” Istanbul canal project, which will create a new waterway from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean in addition to the existing Bosphorus strait.

Regarding the Restoration of the Hagia Sophia Museum to a Mosque

On 7/10/2020, the Turkish Supreme Court issued a ruling, paving the way for the conversion of the Hagia Sophia Museum in Istanbul to a mosque. Here, the people’s reactions to this event varied, so what is the story of the Hagia Sophia mosque?

On Sunday noon, 12 Jumada Al-Awwal 857 AH, 29/5/1445 CE, the Ottoman forces led by Sultan Mehmed II entered the city of Constantinople. On that day the Sultan ordered the raising of the call to prayer from the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia (the meaning of Sofia in the Greek language is said to be “holy wisdom”). It was once considered the center of the Orthodox world, so he ordered the conversion of this church into a mosque that would later be known as the Great Mosque of Hagia Sophia. He changed the name of Constantinople to “Istanbul, or Islam Bul” which means “the city of Islam” and entered this church and prayed in it the first Friday after the conquest.

The construction of the church was completed in 537 CE, by order of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I (527-565), whose rule extended from Spain to the Middle East region. As a religious edifice, it was unparalleled in the Christian world, corresponding to the Vatican the centre of the Catholic world, a monument to the power of the Eastern Roman state.

The main building is 82 meters long, 73 meters wide, 55 meters high, and has nine gates. Its surface was covered with mosaic stones and the walls, after conversion into a mosque, are decorated with inscriptions of the Ottoman calligrapher, four cylindrical minarets were added in the Ottoman style.

Constantinople continued to be the capital of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) state until its fall by the Conqueror. Many struggles with the Islamic state have been fought since the time of the Prophet, Al-Rashidi, the Umayyad, the Abbasid, and the Ottoman calligraphers.

Did Al-Fatih take over the church by force?

When Al-Fatih entered the city he gave some Orthodox churches to the Armenian Christians and others to the Jews by virtue of the fact that they were deserted. As for the Muslims needing mosques, he turned some of them into mosques. The number of conquering Ottoman soldiers reached about a quarter of a million soldiers who were in urgent need of places of worship. Many Orthodox churches were retained by their owners.

As for the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, after the conquest, the Muslims needed a large central mosque. It was not possible to build such a mosque, so the Sultan asked the Christians in the city to sell this “dilapidated church,” as it really was a dilapidated church whose condition deteriorated, particularly after the city’s conditions had completely deteriorated in the latter Byzantine era.

The Greek Orthodox Pope agreed to Al-Fatih’s request and Hagia Sophia was purchased and converted into a mosque. This sale is confirmed by the documents in the Ottoman archive until today. Turkish references recently revealed a historical document confirming that Sultan Muhammad II, known as Muhammad Al-Fatih, bought the famous Church of Hagia Sophia from priests with his own money and not the state’s money. He registered it with a private entitlement deed in his name. The matter was documented through a contract of sale and entitlement of property, with proof of payment of the amount in bills of payment, after opening the city of Constantinople during his rule of the Ottoman Sultanate.

Then he endowed the property for the benefit of the Waqf association in the name of “Abu Al-Fath Sultan Muhammad.” According to historical review, in which twenty seven thousand documents were reviewed, including an original title deed clarifying private ownership of the property. Within it, the property owners submitted a request to rebuild the mosque as it was on the day of its purchase. History testifies that the buying process was not an indecency and did not exercise any kind of unfair authority. Rather, Al-Fatih insisted that the church drawings remain inside the building and still respect the feelings of Christians, but only covered them in order to pray inside. Since that time, the Hagia Sophia has become a great Islamic mosque with great symbolism among Muslims, until the military leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who ended the rule of the Ottoman Caliphate in 1924 and declared a secular republic in its place, banned religious worship in it in 1931, then transformed it in 1935 to an art museum with Islamic and Christian archaeological treasures.

Some claim that Muslims do not have the right to convert this church to a mosque. Their argument is that Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra) when he conquered Jerusalem, preserved the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. He refrained from praying in it so that Muslims would not convert it to a mosque later on the pretext that Umar (ra) prayed there.
The response to this is that the Ottoman Sultan bought the church first and because the legal ruling on converting churches to mosques depends on the type of agreement with the people of the lands opened to Islam.

The opening of Jerusalem by Umar (ra) was peaceful and he agreed with its people what is known as the Umari Covenant to keep their churches, crosses and religious symbols, something that Muslims honoured throughout their rule of the city.

However, if the land was forcibly conquered, by war and force,

then the Muslim ruler would act in accordance with the public interest and if he opined the conversion of a temple to a mosque, he would do so.

One who opposes this behaviour may object, considering it a violation of the religious sanctities of non-Muslims.

We say to him: These are universal norms practices by all peoples and nations.

If you object to this conduct of Muhammad Al-Fatih, you must object at the same time to the conversion of the mosques of Andalusia to churches,

including the Great Mosque of Cordoba.

If you remain silent about what happened to Andalusian mosques,

converting them into churches,

then you must keep silent about what Al-Fatih did.

If you consider the work of Al-Fatih contrary to “international law,”

which the European states constructed to confront the Ottoman Caliphate,

or that there is a lack of respect for other religions,

let us hear your voice calling for the return of the Andalusian mosques to their Islamic origin and their owners, the Muslims.

Another matter: If this is the case with the temples of the lands that were forcibly opened,

then let the demand for the practice of the Umari Covenant apply upon the cases of the mosques of the Muslims

that were converted into churches after agreement between the Muslims and their enemies,

such that the occupiers maintain the mosques of Muslims as they are.

This was so in the case of the mosques of Granada. After the surrender treaty was concluded between Abu Abdullah Al-Saghir, Fernando II and Isabella, the first rulers of Al-Andalus after the Spanish occupation, in the aftermath of the founding of the Andalusian revolution that led to the end of Islamic rule of Andalusia, the Spanish began to violate the treaty little by little.

“Today’s decision, which came as a result of the political will of President (Tayyip) Erdogan, is an open provocation to the civilized world which recognises the unique value and ecumenical nature of the monument” said Culture Minister, Lina Mendoni, according to Reuters news agency.

The minister said that Greece does not intend to interfere in Turkey’s internal affairs, but Hagia Sophia is a monument of importance for all of humanity. However, it seems that their statements are nothing more than registering protest.

Regardless of Erdogan’s motive for this action, it is an action that has restored things to the right path and is on the right track, although Erdogan announced in 2013, when he was prime minister, that he would not consider changing the status of any of Hagia Sofia, as long as there is another great Islamic monument in Istanbul that is almost empty of worshippers, Sultan Ahmed Mosque, whose construction dates back to the 17th century, whilst pointing out that the city has more than three thousand mosques. This suggests that his action of reopening the mosque is for political purposes, the most important of which is to raise his popularity in preparation for the upcoming elections.
